OKS A industrial pyrometers – fast temperature measurement from room temperature

Non-contact temperature measurement for metals and ceramics – with response times from 5 ms.

Proxitron OKS A series pyrometers measure the temperature of metals and ceramic materials quickly and without contact. With measuring ranges of 20 to 850 °C or 30 to 1,000 °C, they support thermal processes starting at room temperature – from heating and processing through to cooling.

These fixed infrared pyrometers combine a low starting temperature with response times from 5 ms. This makes them particularly suitable for dynamic processes where rapid temperature changes are relevant to process control and monitoring. Typical applications include metal processing, heat treatment, brazing and sintering systems, and the ceramics industry.

Three different fixed-focus optics allow the pyrometers to be matched to the target size and measuring distance. The close-focus optics enable spot diameters as small as 1.7 mm at a measuring distance of 95 mm. The integrated LED aiming light makes it easier to align the device with the measuring point.

The analogue output and RS-485 interface with Modbus RTU allow the temperature measuring devices to be integrated into higher-level measurement and control systems. Adjustable emissivity enables adaptation to different materials and surfaces.

  • Temperature monitoring during heating and cooling
  • Process control in industrial furnaces
  • Temperature measurement during hardening and quenching and tempering
  • Monitoring of brazing and welding processes
  • Temperature monitoring in sintering systems
  • Measurement tasks in metal processing and the steel industry
  • Temperature measurement on ceramic workpieces
  • Plant and furnace engineering

Configuration and analysis on a PC

The associated Windows software allows you to adapt the pyrometer to your measurement task and display, save and analyse temperature profiles.

The software provides functions including:

  • Emissivity adjustment

  • Response time adjustment

  • Definition of a partial measuring range

  • Configuration of the maximum and minimum value memory

  • Display, storage and analysis of measured values

The SIC 485 UD interface adapter is available to connect the RS-485 interface to a USB port on the PC.

Product selection – six versions for your measurement task

The OKS A series offers two temperature ranges, each with three optics options. Select the version that matches the expected target temperature, the size of the measuring area and the available measuring distance.

Type Item no. Temperature measuring range Optics
OKS 10 A08.194 S10 6926A 20 to 850 °C Close-focus optics
OKS 10 A10.194 S10 6926B 30 to 1.000 °C Close-focus optics
OKS 11 A08.194 S10 6926C 20 to 850 °C Standard optics

Frequently asked questions about OKS A pyrometers

Which materials is the OKS A series suitable for?

The pyrometers are designed to measure the temperature of metals and ceramic materials. When selecting a device, the target’s surface and emissivity must be considered alongside the temperature range. The device’s emissivity setting can be adjusted using the software.

How fast is the temperature measurement?

The minimum response time t95 is 5 ms. This describes the time required for the measurement signal to reach 95% of a temperature change. The response time can be adjusted to suit the process using the software.

Which optics are suitable for my application?

The appropriate optics depend on the target size and measuring distance. Close-focus, standard and long-distance optics provide different spot sizes. For example, the close-focus optics enable a spot diameter of 1.7 mm at a distance of 95 mm. It is essential that the surface being measured completely fills the measuring spot.

How can the pyrometers be integrated into a system?

The devices feature a 4–20 mA analogue output and an RS-485 interface with Modbus RTU. The associated Windows software and an optional RS-485 to USB adapter are available for configuration and measurement data analysis on a PC.

What temperatures can OKS A pyrometers measure?

Depending on the version, the temperature measuring range is 20–850 °C or 30–1,000 °C. The devices therefore enable non-contact temperature measurement from room temperature up to high processing temperatures. Without additional cooling, the permissible ambient temperature of the pyrometer is 0 to +70 °C.
